How to REMOVE Mold Stains & ORGANIC STAINS from Boats
Introduction
Dot’s Marine Surface & Outdoor Fabric Cleaner can be used on wide variety of boat surfaces to effectively remove soiling, grime, and staining from organic compounds including mold & mildew, bird droppings, fish blood, and bait soils. Below we’ll go over a few of the ways you can use Dot, depending on your type of surface, to remove stains and make your boat look new!
GETTING STARTED
-
Scissors/Knife
Power Drill + Paint Mixer
Preferred Spraying Equipment (Powered System Recommended for Tough Jobs)
Soft Bristle Brush
Rags and Microfiber Towels
Trash bag(s)
PPE
-
Dot is designed to remove mold and other organic stains through oxidation. There are other types of stains you may find on wood that will not be removed by Dot or any oxidation methods. These stains include:
Water staining/marking in wood
Rust and/or iron oxide in wood. Iron oxide reacts with tannins in wood materials to form dark black staining that flows from nails or metal components.
Inks, dyes, or grease staining
-
Dot® pouches are split into two sides: Side A contains an Oxidizer, and Side B contains our patented Activator. When our patented Activators are properly mixed with the oxidant, Dilute Oxidation Technology® is engaged, resulting in powerful cleaning with dramatically less chemical.
Fill mixing container with 1 gallon of water for every gallon of Dot you need. For best results, use hottest available water.
Pour Side A contents of all pouches into the water. Stir powder vigorously until fully dissolved. For best results, use a power drill with a paint mixer attachment.
Pour Side B contents of all pouches into mixed solution. Stir vigorously until fully dissolved.
Pour Dot cleaner into your preferred spraying equipment. (Powered Systems are recommended for tough jobs.)
HOW TO APPLY DOT CLEANER TO BOAT Surfaces
Heavily Stained or Soiled Surfaces (Salvage) >>
For COVERS, VINYL, OR WATER-RESISTANT FABRICS
TESTING & PREPARATION:
Test a small area of fabric for color fastness. Apply a small amount of cleaner in an inconspicuous area and allow to dry. Rinse area with water to remove salts or residues that may be present and check for color loss. Most color-fast fabrics (polyester, olefin, etc.) can be cleaned with Dot Cleaner. Canvas, cotton, or other natural fabrics should be cleaned with caution.
Vacuum surfaces or brush loose soil/debris from surface. Blowing surfaces with a leaf blower or other air stream often is quick and sufficient.
APPLY DOT CLEANER:
Spray surfaces (as needed) to thoroughly wet or saturate. Avoid spraying surfaces in direct sunlight when possible. Keep surfaces wet.
Agitate surfaces with a soft bristle brush
Rinse surfaces with hose, clean water, or damp clothes (for vinyl or plastic surfaces especially)
Allow to air dry
For Hard Surfaces

For Heavily soiled & stained surfaces (Salvage cleaning)
PREPARATION:
Vacuum surfaces or brush loose soil/debris from surface. Blowing surfaces with a leaf blower or other air stream often is quick and sufficient.
APPLY DOT CLEANER:
Spray surfaces (as needed) to thoroughly wet or saturate. Avoid spraying surfaces in direct sunlight when possible. Keep surfaces wet.
Agitate surfaces with a soft bristle brush. Continue to rewet surfaces and agitate until soiling loosens and staining begins to disappear. Multiple applications of product may be needed for heavy soiling. Dwell time may reduce effort required.
Rinse surfaces with hose, clean water, or damp cloths or towels.
Allow to air dry.
For heavy staining, reapplication and cleaning may be required.
